Dean Grosbard

Co-Founder, Playwright, Access Dramaturg

Dean Grosbard (he/him) is a New York/Los Angeles-based access dramaturg, director, performance artist, and dedicated maximalist specializing in premieres and new play development. He uses his experience as a disabled transgender artist to dream up and flesh out radically welcoming worlds.

Dean is currently a Masters’ student of Disability Studies at City University of New York, and a former student of The New School’s Contemporary Theatre and Performance MFA. Dean is also the former Associate Artistic Director of The Vagrancy. 

Access Dramaturgy (with Lee Rosen): ROOM BY THE SEA by John Guerra, a disability-centric retelling of the Icarus myth, opening in February 2026 (Coin and Ghost, Outside In, and After Hours Theatre Company). 

Solo Work: MRAK (a celebration of disability, ancestry, and darkness), a 24-hour fortune-telling extravaganza during an at-home medical test, and BIG TITS 69, an exploration of the world of sex-camming, presented both live and on myfreecams-dot-com (Son of Semele, Asheville Fringe Festival).

World Premieres (directing): THERE IS EVIL IN THIS HOUSE by Natalie Nicole Dressel (SheLA Arts, Best Ensemble Winner), SON OF A MAN by Cooper Bates (Son of Semele). Co-directing the upcoming world premiere of CERCLE HERMAPHRODITOS by Shualee Cook (After Hours Theatre Company).
